There was also a Nissen hut just to the North of White Colne station (now Hill Farm). This was not a Guard Post but used by USAAF Officers, presumably for admin purposes.(see below)


Key:-
Main delivery route to Bures indicated red with arrows. The return journey to the A604 from Bures seems to have been via Daws Cross, Countess Cross and White Colne to the main road.

Bombs were stored along both routes.

The "bored" American guards used the local church tower (to the right) as target practice, trying to hit the weather vane.

colne rd On the stretch of road heading north from the Guard Post (adjacent to 88 on the map) areas of hardstanding are still clearly visible in the kerbside.

Hill Farm is situated about 100m to the North of White Colne Railway Station.
Just inside the entrance, behind the gate was a Nissen Hut used as an Officers Mess

Along the Earls Colne Rd this gate stands alone in a hedge leading nowhere !

However, the field behind once housed a small Nissen hut (with telephone) which was used as an office, this was the access gate.
